Lake
Lake Remoray is a smaller lake in the Jura Massif, situated directly next to the Swiss border and forming a significant nature reserve. Located in the upper Doubs valley, it is connected to the larger Lake Saint-Point via an extensive wetland area. The region has been protected since 1980, as it encompasses rare ecosystems such as peat bogs and reed beds that serve as nesting grounds for numerous bird species. Over 230 different species of birds have been recorded in the reserve, making the lake an important center for ornithology. The lake's infilling is a natural process favored by its shallow depth and the nutrient input from its tributaries. An educational trail allows visitors to discover the sensitive flora and fauna of the wetlands without disturbing the ecosystem.

Getting there
Located in the Franco-Swiss border area, the lake is easily accessible via the N57 from Pontarlier or Lausanne. The Maison de la Réserve in Labergement-Sainte-Marie serves as a good starting point for visits.
Best season
A visit is attractive all year round, with summer being convenient for hiking and autumn for the colorful foliage. In winter, the nature reserve often transforms into a mystical, snowy backdrop for peaceful walks.
Terrain & paths
The terrain is a mosaic of lakeshores, marshes, and forests with mostly flat or gently rising paths. Some sections can be muddy after rain, which may affect the use of the hiking trails throughout the reserve.
What to bring
Sturdy footwear is necessary for the forest and marsh paths. Binoculars are particularly worthwhile for observing the diverse waterfowl, and insect repellent is advisable during the humid summer months.
Parking
Public car parks are located in Labergement-Sainte-Marie, near the lakeshore and the info centre. In high season, these can fill up quickly, so it is worth arriving early in the morning to secure a spot.
Safety
Stay on the marked paths to avoid damaging the sensitive flora and fauna of the nature reserve. Swimming is only permitted in specially designated beach areas to protect the delicate aquatic ecosystem.
Time needed
A circuit around the lake or a hike to the viewpoints takes approximately 3 to 4 hours. A visit to the Maison de la Réserve can take an additional hour and has valuable insights into the local wildlife.
