🍽 Food
Try a plate of local cured meats, bacon, sausage, and alpine cheese. It's an authentic taste of the region you can find in most mountain restaurants.
Don't be put off by the name! This is a savoury Valais tart with potatoes, leeks, apples, and cheese, first-rate after a long hike.
A must-try experience in the Swiss Alps. Enjoy a creamy fondue or melted raclette cheese with potatoes and pickles in a cozy mountain hut.
🛍 Shopping · 🧘 Quiet spots
Buy cheese directly from a local alpine dairy or in one of the small grocery shops in the village. A delicious and authentic souvenir.
In the Villa Cassel visitor centre, you can find high-quality souvenirs, books on alpine flora and fauna, and local products.
Hike the quiet trails through Europe's oldest Swiss stone pine forest. The gnarled, ancient trees and the pure air are incredibly calming.
Take the chairlift up and find a bench overlooking the Aletsch glacier. The silence, broken only by the wind, is unforgettable.
A short walk from the centre, this small, quiet lake is an excellent spot to read a book or just enjoy the scenery.
Water temperature…
Riederalp sits at 1,925 meters and is the western gateway to the Aletsch Arena. The resort impresses with its wide, flat meadows, which serve as Europe's highest golf course in summer and a practice area for skiers in winter. An absolute highlight is Villa Cassel on the Riederfurka ridge. The former summer residence of an English banker now houses the Pro Natura Center Aletsch and provides information on protecting the UNESCO World Heritage site. This is also the starting point for the famous Aletsch Forest, featuring stone pines up to 900 years old. The Moosfluh and Hohfluh viewpoints are easily reached by chairlift and offer perhaps the best view of the majestic curve of the Aletsch Glacier. Riederalp is particularly popular with those seeking peace, as the resort is spacious and less densely built than its neighboring villages. In winter, skiers enjoy the sunny south-facing slopes and direct access to the entire ski area. Access is by cable car from Mörel, with two sections leading directly into the village.
