Crans-Montana is located in the French-speaking part of the canton of Valais at an altitude of around 1500 meters. The town was formed by the merger of the two settlements Crans and Montana and has developed into one of Switzerland's most exclusive year-round destinations. Geographically, Crans-Montana charms with its location on a wide plateau facing south, guaranteeing maximum sunshine. The history of tourism began here in the late 19th century, initially as a health resort for sanatoriums. Today, the town is a hotspot for winter sports enthusiasts with a huge ski area reaching up to the Plaine-Morte Glacier. In summer, the region transforms into a paradise for hikers and golfers; the Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club hosts the Omega European Masters. The architecture is a mix of traditional Valais chalets, luxury hotel complexes, and modern apartment buildings. Economically, the municipality is almost entirely shaped by tourism and the real estate sector. In addition to sports, Crans-Montana gives an urban flair with high-end boutiques, casinos, and a wide culinary range. Access to the Rhone Valley is via a panoramic road and a funicular from Sierre.
