Fully is located on the right bank of the Rhône in Lower Valais and is one of Switzerland's most dynamic wine-growing municipalities. Geographically, the town is overlooked by the massive Grand Chavalard, which shapes the climate and the landscape. The sun-drenched, terraced slopes of Fully are famous for their granitic soils, giving the wine a unique mineral note. The Petite Arvine grape variety, in particular, finds its great expression here, making Fully the unofficial center for this specialty. Another landmark of the municipality is the extensive chestnut groves above the village. Every year in October, the Fête de la Châtaigne takes place, one of the largest folk festivals in Valais, attracting tens of thousands of visitors. Historically, Fully was also a significant site for energy production; the former funicular to the Fully hydroelectric power plant was long considered the steepest in the world. Today, the municipality is a popular residential location, combining the charm of a wine village with modern infrastructure. The Les Follatères nature reserve at the bend of the Rhône provides exceptional flora and fauna with Mediterranean influence. Sport-wise, Fully is a starting point for demanding hikes and mountain tours in the Grand-Muveran massif. The community maintains a spirited cultural life and proudly preserves its identity, closely linked to agriculture, wine, and the impressive alpine backdrop.
