Collombey-Muraz is located in the Monthey district of the canton of Valais, on the left bank of the Rhone river. The municipality consists of several villages, including Collombey, Muraz, Illarsaz, and Vionnaz. Geographically, it extends from the fertile plains of the Rhone Valley up to the forested slopes of the Valais Alps. For a long time, the municipality was primarily agricultural, especially noted for viticulture on the sunny slopes and arable farming on the plains. In the second half of the 20th century, Collombey-Muraz experienced a strong industrial boom, partly due to the establishment of an oil refinery, which was a major employer for decades. Today, the municipality is increasingly becoming an attractive residential area for commuters working in Monthey or on Lake Geneva. The infrastructure is modern and provides diverse sports and leisure opportunities. In the surrounding area, numerous hiking trails and mountain bike routes invite exploration of the alpine world. Culturally, the region is enriched by traditional festivals and proximity to the cultural centers of Lower Valais. The architecture shows an interesting contrast between the old village centers with their historic stone houses and the modern residential and commercial zones reflecting the growth of recent years. Public transport connections are provided by the Tonkin railway line and various bus services.
