Uzwil is located in the west of the Canton of St. Gallen and is inseparably linked to Switzerland's industrial history. The development of the community was decisively shaped by the Bühler family and the technology group of the same name, which has had its headquarters here since 1860. Bühler AG is today a world market leader in the manufacture of food processing machinery, giving Uzwil global economic importance. This industrial presence is reflected in the townscape, which is a mix of modern factory facilities, workers' housing, and spacious villas of the entrepreneurial family. In addition to industry, however, Uzwil also features attractive residential areas and a good infrastructure. Geographically, the place is embedded in the hilly landscape of Untertoggenburg, not far from the river Thur. Historically, the nearby Oberberg Castle is also significant, once belonging to the Abbey of St. Gallen. The community has transformed in recent years into a modern service and residential location, benefiting from good connections to the A1 motorway and the Zurich-St. Gallen railway line. For leisure activities, numerous sports facilities, an outdoor pool, and hiking trails along the Thur are available. Uzwil thus uniquely combines industrial tradition with high quality of life in a rural setting.
