Grünfels Castle is located in Jona near Rapperswil in the Canton of St. Gallen and is a representative example of a historic country manor with castle characteristics. The current building was constructed around 1820 on the foundations of an older complex whose origins date back to the Middle Ages. The estate was once the seat of prominent local families and served as a center for agriculture and viticulture in its sunny location on Lake Zurich. The castle's architecture is characterized by neoclassical style elements, reflected in the clear facade design and harmonious proportions. In the 20th century, the property was acquired by the municipality of Rapperswil-Jona and has since served as a cultural meeting place. Today, Grünfels Castle houses a music school and is regularly used for concerts, exhibitions, and private functions. The surrounding parklands and vineyards highlight the castle's historical significance as a defining element of Jona's townscape.
