Habsburg Tower (Switzerland)

Weather…

Habsburg Castle, located on the Wülpelsberg in the Canton of Aargau, is the ancestral seat of one of the most powerful dynasties in world history. Founded around 1020 by Radbot of Klettgau, the site quickly developed into the center of comital power in the region. From here, the Habsburg lineage rose to become a European superpower, ruling the Holy Roman Empire and later the Austro-Hungarian Empire for centuries. The original structure was a double castle consisting of a large front castle and a smaller rear castle; today, primarily the ruins of the front castle and the prominent tower of the rear castle have been preserved. Following the loss of Habsburg rule in Aargau to the Swiss Confederates in 1415, the castle lost its military significance but remained vital as a symbol of the imperial house's origins. Today, visitors can tour the archaeological excavations and learn about the family's rise to power through a dedicated exhibition.
