Inje
Inje is set in the mountainous heart of Gangwon Province, offering some of the most rugged and pristine wilderness in South Korea. It is widely recognized as the country's capital for extreme sports, centered around the Naerincheon Stream, the premier location for white-water rafting. For the daring, Inje also is home to one of the highest bungee jumping platforms in Korea. A significant portion of Inner Seoraksan National Park lies within its borders, providing hikers access to spiritual sites like Baekdamsa Temple. A unique natural highlight is the Wondae-ri Birch Forest, where hundreds of thousands of white-barked birch trees create a surreal, fairytale-like landscape that is particularly popular with photographers. Motorsport fans can enjoy the Inje Speedium, a world-class international racing circuit. The local culinary specialty is 'Hwangtae' (pollock dried in the mountain wind), which develops a unique texture and flavor through the natural freezing and thawing process. The best time to visit is in the summer for water sports or autumn for the spectacular foliage. In winter, the snow-covered birch forest gives a magical, quiet atmosphere. Accessible by bus from Seoul, the journey itself through mountain passes is scenic. Inje is the convenient destination for those seeking an adrenaline rush or a peaceful retreat far from the urban crowds.
