The Florida Ridge is the central geographical backbone of the Nggela Islands, also known as the Florida Islands, located north of Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands. This mountain range consists of a series of hills and mountains that span across the main islands of Nggela Sule and Nggela Pile. Geologically, the ridge is composed predominantly of volcanic rock and uplifted coral limestone, resulting in a complex topography with numerous bays and inlets. During World War II, the Florida Ridge held immense strategic importance, particularly the harbor of Tulagi at the base of the ridge, which served as a major Japanese and later American naval base. The slopes are covered in tropical lowland rainforest, hosting a rich biodiversity. Today, the settlements along the ridge are known for their traditional lifestyle and their connection to the marine environment.
