Logar Valley (Slovenia)

Weather…

Logar Valley is one of Europe's most beautiful glacial Alpine valleys, situated in the Kamnik-Savinja Alps in northern Slovenia. It spans approximately seven kilometers in length and is divided into three characteristic sections: the forested Log, the meadowed Plest, and the rocky Kot. Since 1987, the valley has been protected as a landscape park to preserve its unique harmony between pristine nature and traditional mountain farming. At the head of the valley lies the Rinka Waterfall, which at 90 meters high is one of the country's most spectacular and visited waterfalls. The surrounding peaks, including Ojstrica and Planjava, rise above 2,300 meters, providing a dramatic backdrop and challenging routes for climbers. The valley is also famous for its centuries-old highland farms that continue to produce traditional Alpine specialties today.

📋 Practical info

🧭
Getting there
Drive along a jaw-dropping alpine toll road that terminates dramatically inside the towering mountain amphitheater. The access journey itself provides world-class scenic viewpoints right from your vehicle.
📅
Best season
Summer perfectly aligns with long, glorious hikes through violently green alpine meadows. Winter snowfalls completely transform the steep valley into a highly coveted cross-country ski retreat.
⛰️
Terrain & paths
The central valley floor provides delightfully level, romantic walking trails past wooden farmhouses. The trails abruptly shift into incredibly challenging, steep rock climbs pushing toward the peaks.
🎒
What to bring
Heavy-duty mountain boots are completely non-negotiable for ascending the viciously steep waterfall trails. Unpredictable mountain gales make carrying thick windbreakers vital even on sunny mornings.
🅿️
Parking
Paved lots exist adjacent to prominent tourist guesthouses and crucial trailheads along the road. The initial valley entry toll effectively covers your right to park in these designated zones.
⚠️
Safety
Lethal rockfalls are an ever-present danger on the sheer valley walls, demanding hyper-vigilance. Calmly keep your distance if you encounter fiercely protective sheepdogs guarding their flocks.
⏱️
Time needed
Meandering through the gorgeous flat valley bottom provides three hours of effortless visual joy. Attempting to summit the surrounding limestone peaks rigorously demands an entire exhausting day.
