Lipica Stud Farm (Slovenia)

Weather…

Lipica Stud Farm is the oldest European stud farm continuously breeding one of the world's most prestigious horse breeds: the Lipizzaner. It was established in 1580 by the Habsburg Archduke Charles II in the heart of the Slovenian Karst region, chosen for its favorable climate and terrain. The landscape of Lipica is characterized by vast pastures, centuries-old oak avenues, and iconic white fences that create a harmonious environment for the horses. For centuries, Lipica was the primary source of horses for the Imperial Court in Vienna and remains closely linked to the classical dressage traditions of the Spanish Riding School. Today, the farm maintains a herd of over 300 Lipizzaners, known for their elegance, intelligence, and athletic ability. Visitors can explore the historic stables, watch training sessions and performances, and visit the Lipikum museum. In 2022, the tradition of Lipizzaner horse breeding was inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, solidifying its status as a living masterpiece of European heritage.
