💡 Tips
- Walk across the Mária Valéria Bridge to Hungary (Esztergom); the center of the bridge gives the absolute best viewpoint of the massive Esztergom Basilica.
- During summer, the Vadaš Thermal Resort gets extremely busy; try visiting on weekdays or during the late afternoon to secure a good spot.
- Consider taking a short sightseeing cruise on the Danube; ticket booths are located right on the riverside promenade.
- Most places readily accept Euros and cards, but if you walk over to Hungary, having a few Forints or a travel card might be handy for small market purchases.
- Parking near the bridge can be tricky on weekends; try the side streets a bit further inland to save time.
🍽 Food
Enjoy a rich, spicy bowl of local Danube fish soup at one of the traditional riverside restaurants.
Grab a hot, garlic-rubbed fried flatbread from the popular fast-food stalls around the thermal baths.
Order a glass of local white wine from the nearby Muzla wine region at the city's wine bars.
🛍 Shopping · 🧘 Quiet spots
Stroll along the main pedestrian street for summer clothing, ice cream, and beachwear.
Look for local markets or specialty grocers selling bright red paprika powder from the region.
Walk here in the late evening; the crowds thin out, and the illuminated basilica is spectacular.
Take a short drive outside the city for peaceful hiking trails overlooking the Danube bend.
Water temperature…
Štúrovo (Parkan), majestically situated on the banks of the Danube and inseparably linked to the Hungarian city of Esztergom via the Maria Valeria Bridge, is the warmest and southernmost city in Slovakia. Due to this unique geographic location, Štúrovo is deeply permeated by Hungarian cultural heritage. Historically, the site served for centuries as a crucial ferry and bridgehead across the river. Today, Štúrovo is best known as one of Slovakia's most popular summer destinations, famous for the gigantic Vadaš Thermal Park. This extensive aquapark utilizes hot healing springs and provides entertainment for thousands of tourists with its spectacular wave pool. The panoramic panoramic view from Štúrovo of the massive Esztergom Basilica on the other side of the Danube is considered one of the most beautiful photographic motifs in Central Europe.
