Red Stone Castle (Slovakia)

Weather…

Red Stone Castle (Červený Kameň) is situated on the southeastern slopes of the Little Carpathians and stands as one of the best-preserved fortifications in Slovakia. Originally built as a royal border fortress in the 13th century, it was transformed in the 16th century by the wealthy Fugger family into an impregnable Renaissance fortress with massive defensive bastions. The most striking feature of the castle is its enormous cellar complex, originally intended as warehouses for commercial goods, which ranks among the largest of its kind in Central Europe. Later, the Pálffy family acquired the estate and converted the military structure into a grand Baroque noble residence with lavishly decorated interiors. Today, visitors can explore luxuriously furnished halls, an extensive weapon collection, and a historic pharmacy. The castle is also a frequent filming location for historical movies and fairy tales, and it hosts regular jousting tournaments and falconry displays.
