Lipany, picturesquely situated in the upper valley of the Torysa River and located between the foothills of the Čergov and Levoča Mountains in eastern Slovakia, is a small historic town with a strong agricultural tradition. As one of the old royal towns of the Šariš region, it was an important commercial and craft center in the Middle Ages, benefiting from its location on an ancient trade route to Poland. The historical and spiritual center of the town is the impressive 14th-century Gothic Church of St. Martin, which houses a valuable late Gothic altar from the workshop of Master Paul of Levoča. Today, Lipany is a quiet regional hub that, thanks to the newly built Aquapark Lipany utilizing hot geothermal water, is increasingly becoming an attractive destination for tourists and those seeking relaxation.
