Krásna Hôrka Castle (Slovakia)

Weather…

Krásna Hôrka Castle is one of the most significant and well-known historical sites in Slovakia, perched on a conical hill above the village of Krásnohorské Podhradie. Established in the early 14th century by the Bebek family, it originally served as a Gothic fortress. It later became the ancestral seat of the Andrássy family, who held it for centuries and remodeled it into a grand residence with Renaissance and Baroque features. A tragic event occurred on March 10, 2012, when a massive fire broke out, destroying the castle's roofs and damaging part of its valuable collections. The castle is famous for its unique exhibits, such as the naturally mummified remains of Žofia Serédy and an extensive collection of historical weapons and furniture. Nearby stands the Andrássy Mausoleum, a masterpiece of Art Nouveau architecture. Following years of complex restoration work, the castle is being prepared to reopen to the public, preserving its role as a key symbol of regional history.
