The Murambi Genocide Memorial, formerly the Murambi Technical School, is one of the most harrowing memorial sites in Rwanda. In 1994, tens of thousands of Tutsis sought refuge here but were lured into a trap and massacred. The memorial preserves the bodies of hundreds of victims, conserved with lime, to bear witness to the brutality of the killings. This display serves as undeniable proof of the scale of the genocide. The empty classrooms and the displayed bodies create a profoundly moving and disturbing atmosphere. Visitors can also see clothing and personal items of the victims found at the scene. The memorial is an essential site for understanding the horrors of the genocide and for remembering the victims.

Visiting
The Murambi Genocide Memorial is open to visitors, featuring indoor exhibitions and outdoor graves. Entry is typically free, but donations are appreciated.

Photography is not allowed inside the memorial rooms out of respect for victims. Outdoor photos are permitted but without flash and with dignity.
