Our Lady of Kibeho Sanctuary (Rwanda)

Weather…

The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Kibeho is a major Roman Catholic pilgrimage site in the Southern Province. It is the only Vatican-approved site of Marian apparitions in Africa. Between 1981 and 1989, several adolescents reported receiving visions of the Virgin Mary, who became known as 'Nyina wa Jambo' (Mother of the Word). The apparitions included prophecies of the 1994 genocide and called for prayer, repentance, and conversion. The Vatican investigated the claims and in 2001 officially approved the devotion associated with the apparitions to three of the original visionaries. Today, Kibeho attracts tens of thousands of pilgrims each year from Rwanda and around the world, especially on November 28, the anniversary of the first apparition. The shrine is a place of prayer, healing, and reconciliation.
