The region is very hilly and known for its mineral deposits, especially tin (cassiterite) and tungsten. Artisanal mining is an important economic sector for the local population. Agriculture is also important, with the cultivation of coffee and bananas predominating. Rulindo benefits from its strategic location on the country's main transport artery, which facilitates trade and transport. The town of Tare, also known as Rulindo, is a growing center with markets and small businesses. The government is promoting the modernization of the mining sector to increase efficiency and improve working conditions.
