Pots of Rubingo (Rwanda)

Weather…

Utubindi twa Rubingo, meaning 'the Pots of Rubingo', is an archaeological site consisting of several large pots carved into rock. This site is linked to the legend of King Ruganzu II Ndoli, a famous 16th-century warrior king known for his magical powers. Legend says that the king and his army rested here and used these pots to cook for food and the traditional sorghum beer. The size of the pots was meant to symbolize the strength and power of the king and his army. However, archaeologists believe the rock formations are of natural origin, possibly created by erosion. Regardless of their origin, the site is an important part of Rwanda's cultural heritage and a fascinating example of how natural features are integrated into national mythology.
