Grudziądz is a city in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, situated on the right bank of the Vistula River with a history defined by its strategic location. Its development was closely tied to the Teutonic Order, which established a castle here in the 13th century and granted the settlement city rights in 1291. The city's most iconic landmark is the row of 26 massive brick granaries built between the 14th and 17th centuries, which served both as storage and defensive walls facing the river. During the interwar period, Grudziądz was famous as the center of Polish cavalry, hosting the prestigious Cavalry Training Center. The city is home to the longest combined road and rail bridge in Poland, named after the Olympic athlete Bronisław Malinowski. The Old Town features well-preserved Gothic churches and remnants of medieval city walls, including the historic Water Gate. Modern Grudziądz is an important industrial center focusing on machinery, logistics, and food processing.
