Chełmża, historically known as Kulmsee, is a town in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship in northern Poland. The town's skyline is dominated by the imposing Co-Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, one of the largest brick churches in Poland and a masterpiece of Brick Gothic architecture. Originally built as the episcopal see of the Chełmno Land, its size testifies to the town's historical importance. Chełmża is beautifully situated on the shore of Lake Chełmżyńskie, which lends the town a special charm and provides opportunities for water sports and recreation. Besides the cathedral, the Church of St. Nicholas and the historic town layout with fragments of the old city walls are also worth seeing. Getting to Chełmża is easy as it is located just about 20 kilometers north of Toruń, a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is well-connected to the regional road and rail network. The nearest airport is in Bydgoszcz. The best time to visit is during the summer, when you can fully enjoy the mild climate and the beauty of the lake. The Kuyavia region is known for its fertile soils and agricultural products, which is also reflected in the local cuisine. A visit to Chełmża can be perfectly combined with exploring the nearby Gothic castles and the historic city of Toruń.
