Włocławek is a historic city in central Poland, located on the banks of the Vistula River within the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship. As one of Poland's oldest episcopal seats, established in 1123, the city has a rich ecclesiastical and cultural heritage. The 14th-century Gothic Cathedral of the Assumption is its most iconic landmark, housing significant works of medieval and Renaissance art. A major modern development for the city was the 1970 completion of the Vistula dam, which created the Włocławek Reservoir, currently Poland's largest man-made lake by surface area. Economically, the city is shaped by the chemical industry, notably the Anwil company. Włocławek also has a long-standing tradition in the production of faience and paper, and it continues to serve as an essential cultural and educational hub in the Kuyavia region.
