Trolltindene is a mountain massif in Møre og Romsdal county, world-renowned for its extreme vertical rock faces. The highest peak in the range is Store Trolltind at 1,788 meters. The northern side of the massif features the infamous Trollveggen (Troll Wall), which is Europe's highest vertical rock face with a drop of over 1,000 meters. Geologically, the mountains are composed of metamorphic gneiss, shaped by tectonic uplift and subsequent glacial erosion during consecutive ice ages. The first successful mountaineering ascent of the Troll Wall was achieved in 1965, a milestone that resonated throughout the climbing community. Historically, the area was a prominent site for BASE jumping until the sport was legally banned there in 1986 following numerous fatal accidents. Today, the massif remains a magnet for mountaineers and tourists alike, who enjoy the views from the nearby Trollstigen viewpoint. The Romsdalen valley climate often leads to rockfalls and avalanches, making the ascent of the peaks a high-risk endeavor.
