Molde, the administrative center of Møre og Romsdal county, is located on the northern shore of the Moldefjord on Norway's west coast. The city is widely known as the 'City of Roses,' a nickname derived from its lush rose gardens that flourish due to the mild climate provided by the Gulf Stream. Historically, Molde emerged as a significant timber and fish trading post in the 17th century before being granted city status in 1742. A cultural highlight is the annual Moldejazz, one of Europe's oldest and most prestigious jazz festivals, which has drawn thousands of visitors since 1961. From the Varden viewpoint, visitors can enjoy the famous 'Molde Panorama,' featuring 222 partially snow-capped mountain peaks. The city's architecture was largely rebuilt in a modern style following heavy destruction during World War II, with the Molde Cathedral, completed in 1957, serving as a prominent landmark. Today, the city is also notable as the home of the successful football club Molde FK and as an educational hub through Molde University College.
