Lom
The village of Lom is picturesquely situated on the banks of the Bøvra River and is considered the cultural center of the Gudbrandsdalen valley. Its primary landmark is the Lom Stave Church, built in the 12th century. It is one of the largest of its kind in Norway, featuring characteristic dragon heads and a rich Baroque-era interior. However, Lom is known for more than just history; its excellent gastronomy is highlighted by the 'Bakeriet i Lom' bakery, famous nationwide for its cinnamon rolls and stone-oven bread. As the gateway to Jotunheimen National Park, the village serves as a convenient base for expeditions to Galdhøpiggen, Northern Europe's highest mountain. The Norwegian Mountain Museum located here provides deep insights into the climate, archaeology, and geology of the high mountain region. Travelers usually arrive via the Sognefjellet or Valdresflye National Tourist Routes, which are among Scandinavia's most spectacular roads.
