Church of Saint Stephen - Konče (North Macedonia)

Weather…

The Church of Saint Stephen in Konče is the architectural jewel of the Konče Monastery, built in 1366 by the nobleman Nikola Stanjević. The building is a prime example of the 14th-century Byzantine-Macedonian style, characterized by its cross-in-square design and meticulous stone and brickwork. Inside, the church houses significant fresco cycles that, despite some damage over the centuries, still testify to the high skill of medieval painters. The depictions include Christian feasts, various saints, and the donor himself. The church underwent partial renovation in the 19th century, yet it retained its medieval floor plan and many original architectural details. It is regarded as one of the most important monuments of the Serbian-Byzantine era in North Macedonia. Its serene atmosphere and art-historical significance make it a precious destination for both academic research and spiritual pilgrimage.
