The Konče Monastery, dedicated to Saint Stephen, is a prominent medieval monastery in southeastern North Macedonia. It was founded in 1366 by the Serbian Duke Nikola Stanjević, a high-ranking noble at the court of Tsar Dušan. The monastery church is an outstanding example of 14th-century sacral architecture, following the cross-in-square style of the Macedonian school. The interior preserves fragments of original frescoes from the time of its foundation, depicting saints and biblical scenes with high artistic quality. For centuries, the monastery served as a vital religious and cultural hub for the region, surviving the long period of Ottoman rule. Archaeological finds near the monastery indicate that the site was inhabited long before the current structures were built. Today, the monastery is a protected cultural monument, attracting both worshippers and tourists interested in its deep historical roots and serene atmosphere.
