Bansko is a photogenic village near Strumica, positioned at the foothills of the majestic Belasica mountain range. The settlement is renowned nationwide for its geothermal springs, which yield mineral-rich water reaching temperatures of up to 72 degrees Celsius. These thermal waters have been utilized since antiquity, making Bansko a significant center for wellness and health tourism in North Macedonia today. The primary attraction of the village is the well-preserved ruins of ancient Roman thermal baths dating back to the 3rd century. Archaeological excavations have revealed impressive remains of the bathing complex, including various pools and the ancient floor heating system (hypocaust). These thermal baths rank among the best-preserved Roman monuments of their kind on the Balkan Peninsula. Surrounded by dense forests, Bansko provides not only the opportunity to relax in the hot springs but also serves as an excellent starting point for hiking. Several trails originate from the village into the Belasica Mountains, allowing visitors to experience the pristine nature and access the region's nearby waterfalls.
