Dar el-Hana Pavilion (Morocco)

Weather…

The Dar el-Hana Pavilion is situated within the expansive Agdal Gardens of Marrakech, which are among the oldest and most significant garden complexes in the Islamic world. Originally established in the 12th century by the Almohad Sultan Abd al-Mu'min, these gardens have served as a royal retreat for various Moroccan dynasties for centuries. The pavilion overlooks the Sahraj el-Hana, a massive man-made water reservoir designed to irrigate the surrounding orchards of pomegranate, fig, and olive trees. Throughout history, the site underwent significant renovations by the Saadians and later by the Alaouites in the 19th century. The reservoir's scale is so immense that it was historically used for military drills and even for training sailors. Covering over 400 hectares, the Agdal Gardens are a prime example of the integration of productive agriculture with aesthetic park design. Today, the gardens are part of the UNESCO World Heritage site, with the pavilion standing as a silent witness to the former splendor and horticultural expertise of the Moroccan sultans.
