Ouirgane
Ouirgane is a low-key spot in the heart of the High Atlas Mountains, offering a peaceful escape from the bustle of Marrakesh. The village sits in a wide valley characterized by its striking red soil and lush olive groves. It serves as a convenient base for trekking and horseback riding trips to nearby Berber hamlets and the Toubkal National Park. The area is also notable for its traditional salt mines, where salt is still harvested using centuries-old techniques. For those seeking relaxation, there are appealing eco-lodges offering spectacular mountain vistas. The local gastronomy prides itself on organic ingredients and the rich olive oil produced in the valley. Located about 90 minutes south of Marrakesh on the road to the Tizi n'Test pass, it is a favorite retreat during summer for its cooler air. Spring is particularly beautiful when almond trees bloom and the distant peaks are still capped with snow.
