Komovi Monastery (Montenegro)

Weather…

Kom Monastery, often referred to as Komovi Monastery, is situated on the small island of Andrijska Gora in the northwestern part of Lake Skadar. It was built between 1415 and 1427 by Đurađ and Aleksa Đurašević Crnojević and is dedicated to the Dormition of the Mother of God. For a long period, the monastery was the cultural and spiritual hub of the Crnojević dynasty, serving as the burial site for several members of this prominent ruling family. The architecture of the single-nave church is simple, yet its interior preserves valuable 15th-century frescoes that are among the best-preserved from that era. In the years following the fall of the medieval Zeta state, the monastery remained a symbol of resistance and the preservation of Orthodox traditions. Due to its location within the lake's marshlands, it is accessible only by boat, which enhances its mystical and isolated atmosphere. Today, the monastery is a protected cultural monument inhabited by monks who continue its centuries-old traditions.
