Water Tower (Chișinău)

The Chișinău Water Tower is a significant architectural landmark situated on the edge of the capital's historic center. Built in 1892 according to the designs of the renowned architect Alexander Bernardazzi, it was an integral part of the city's first modern municipal water supply system. The structure stands 22 meters tall and features an eclectic architectural style, built with local limestone and red brick. Having suffered damage during the 1940 earthquake and the Second World War, the tower was later meticulously restored to its original appearance. Today, it houses the Museum of the City of Chișinău, featuring exhibits that detail the history of the capital from the 15th century to the present day. Visitors can ascend to the top floor to enjoy a panoramic view of the surrounding urban landscape. The tower is regarded as a symbol of Chișinău's late 19th-century modernization and as a testament to Bernardazzi's lasting architectural influence.
