Visiting
The Sleeping Lady is a mountain ridge viewable from several viewpoints along the coastal road. The best sight is reached via a short marked trail, but climbing the mountain itself is not recommended.
Typical hours
Like most natural landmarks, the viewpoints are typically accessible during daylight hours. Early morning or late afternoon usually offer the clearest silhouette due to the low sun angle.
Photography
For the iconic silhouette photo, a telephoto lens is recommended to capture the entire ridge line. The best shot is usually taken on a sunny early morning when the contours stand out sharply.
Time needed
Allow about half an hour for the short walk to the main viewpoint and photography. Those wanting to explore the area should plan at least one hour.
Combine with
Combine excellently with a coastal drive along Kosrae's east side, where the historical Lelu ruins can also be visited. A mangrove boat tour also makes a good addition.
Getting there
The main viewpoint is located right off the coastal road, about 15 minutes north of the capital Tofol. A rental car or taxi is the easiest way to get there.
Insider tip
Arrive at the viewpoint by 6 AM to photograph the Sleeping Lady in the soft morning light. Mosquito repellent is essential because of the abundant tropical insects.
