Jabor (Jaluit Atoll)
Jabor on Jaluit Atoll was the administrative seat of the Marshall Islands during the German colonial period (1885-1914). The island still houses buildings from that era, including the former German administration building and a cemetery. Jaluit also served as an important trading port for copra. After World War I, the Japanese took control and continued to use the facilities. During World War II, Jaluit was a Japanese base, remnants of which are still visible. Today, Jabor is a small settlement with about 500 inhabitants, living mainly from fishing and agriculture. The historic buildings and pristine nature attract occasional tourists. The place is a symbol of the turbulent history of the Marshall Islands.
