Andohahela National Park (Madagascar)

Weather…

Andohahela National Park in southeastern Madagascar covers an area of approximately 760 square kilometers and is part of the UNESCO World Heritage site Rainforests of the Atsinanana. It is characterized by its extraordinary geographical location in the Anosy Mountains, which creates an abrupt transition zone between wet tropical rainforest in the east and dry spiny forest in the west. This microclimatic diversity allows for three distinct ecosystems to exist within the boundaries of a single park. Historically, the area was placed under protection as early as 1939 and upgraded to national park status in 1997 to preserve its immense biological diversity. The park is home to 13 species of lemurs, including the well-known Ring-tailed lemur and Verreaux's sifaka, as well as over 120 bird species. Beyond its ecological significance, Andohahela serves as a vital watershed, providing essential freshwater to the surrounding agricultural lands of the region.
