Sahambavy Tea Plantation (Madagascar)

Weather…

The Sahambavy Tea Plantation is the only commercial tea estate in Madagascar, located near the city of Fianarantsoa in the central highlands. Established in 1970 with technical assistance from Kenya, the plantation now covers an area of approximately 335 hectares. The region's cool and humid climate provides convenient conditions for tea cultivation at an altitude of about 1,100 meters. The estate produces roughly 500 tons of tea annually, the majority of which is exported to global markets via the tea auction in Mombasa. A smaller portion is sold locally under the brand name 'Sidibe'. Visitors can tour the sprawling green hills, watch the tea pluckers at work, and visit the processing factory to learn about the journey from leaf to cup. The plantation is a significant employer for the local community and a unique attraction, showcasing a form of agriculture that is rare in Madagascar's predominantly rice-based economy.
