Ranomafana Amphibian Forest (Madagascar)

Weather…

Ranomafana National Park, located in the southeastern highlands of Madagascar, was established in 1991 following the discovery of the Golden Bamboo Lemur in 1986. The protected area covers approximately 41,600 hectares of dense montane rainforest and serves as a critical habitat for numerous endangered species. The region is particularly renowned for its enormous diversity of amphibians, including many endemic frog species from the Mantellidae family that thrive in the park's humid microhabitats. Its geographical location at altitudes between 800 and 1,200 meters ensures a cooler, wetter climate with annual rainfall reaching up to 4,000 millimeters. Scientific research stations like Centre ValBio support the conservation and study of local flora and fauna. The vegetation is dominated by ferns, orchids, and mosses that carpet the forest floor and tree trunks in this biodiversity-rich ecosystem.
