Koerich Castle (Luxembourg)

Weather…

The ruins of Koerich Castle, popularly known as the Grevenschloss, are an outstanding example of late medieval noble architecture in Luxembourg. Situated in the valley of the Goeblange stream, the castle was founded at the end of the 12th century by Wirich I. Originally built in the Romanesque style, it underwent Gothic renovations in the 14th century and was later transformed into a prestigious Renaissance-style manor during the 16th century. The most prominent feature of the site is the massive square keep, which stands as a silent witness to the power and prestige of the Lords of Koerich. Following the decline of the noble family in the 18th century, the castle fell into disrepair and gradually became a ruin. In recent decades, the stonework has been stabilized and a modern walkway system has been installed, allowing visitors to explore the ruins safely. Today, the castle serves as an atmospheric venue for cultural events, including a highly popular annual medieval festival.
