Old Castle of Ansembourg (Luxembourg)

Weather…

The Castle of Ansembourg, often referred to as the 'Old Castle' to distinguish it from the nearby new château, is an authentic medieval fortress in the easy on the eye Valley of the Seven Castles. Perched high above the Eisch river, its origins date back to the 12th century, with the first documented mention in 1135. The imposing keep and outer fortifications bear witness to its strategic importance in a turbulent era. Over the centuries, the castle was rebuilt and extended several times, particularly in the 14th and 16th centuries, giving it its present, multi-layered appearance. Although the castle is privately owned and not open to the public, its imposing presence contributes significantly to the character of the valley. It is a popular photo opportunity and a symbol of Luxembourg's rich feudal heritage, which is particularly vivid in the Eisch valley.
