Valley of the Seven Castles (Luxembourg)

Weather…

The Valley of the Seven Castles stretches along the winding course of the Eisch River in central Luxembourg and is considered one of the country's most valuable cultural-historical landscapes. Along a stretch of about 24 kilometers between Mersch and Koerich are the impressive residences of Mersch, Schoenfels, Hollenfels, the two castles of Ansembourg, Septfontaines, and Koerich. Geographically, the valley is characterized by the transition from Luxembourg sandstone to Keuper, resulting in a varied topography with steep slopes and fertile floodplains. For centuries, the castles served as defensive structures and noble seats, reflecting various architectural styles from Romanesque to Baroque. In addition to architectural treasures, the valley is a sanctuary for endangered animal species such as the black stork and numerous bat species that nest in the old walls. The 'Vallée des Sept Châteaux' long-distance hiking trail connects these monuments, leading through dense beech forests and wide meadows.
