Bascharage Industrial Zone (Luxembourg)

Weather…

The Bascharage Industrial Zone, also known as Opkorn or Bommel, forms the economic backbone of the municipality of Käerjeng in southwestern Luxembourg. It was established as part of the targeted national economic diversification strategy following the steel crisis of the 1970s and now hosts several major international corporations. One of the most prominent occupants is Guardian Glass, a world leader in float glass production, which has operated one of its most important European plants and a research center here since 1981. Additionally, the zone is home to BorgWarner (formerly Delphi), specializing in powertrain technologies and innovative automotive components. Its excellent geographical location and direct access to the A13 motorway facilitate intensive cross-border freight traffic to France and Belgium. In recent years, increased measures for ecological modernization and energy efficiency have been implemented across the extensive site to ensure future viability. The zone secures thousands of high-quality jobs and contributes significantly to the Grand Duchy's industrial value creation.
