Differdange, located in southwestern Luxembourg near the French border, is known as the 'City of Steel' and plays a central role in the Grand Duchy's industrial history. The founding of the first ironworks in 1896 marked the beginning of a rapid development that made Differdange one of ArcelorMittal's most significant production sites. Today, the city remains an important industrial center but has simultaneously invested in creative industries, as shown by the 1535° Creative Hub innovation center housed in former workshop buildings. The city's surroundings are characterized by forested hills that were once used for mining and now serve as recreational areas. Culturally, Differdange has interactive experiences for visitors through Differdange Castle, which now hosts Miami University, and the Luxembourg Science Center. The city is noted for its high quality of life and strong civic engagement. Historically, Differdange has often been a place of migration, reflected in its multinational population.
