Am Brill (Luxembourg)

Weather…

The Am Brill nature reserve is located in southern Luxembourg between the municipalities of Schifflange and Kayl within the former iron ore mining area of the Minett region. Covering an area of approximately 32 hectares, it was created through the restoration of former industrial sites, securing valuable wetlands and reed beds. Today, the area serves as a significant sanctuary for numerous protected bird species, amphibians, and insects that find well-suited living conditions in the stagnant waters and marshy zones. A system of wooden boardwalks allows visitors to observe the flora and fauna without disturbing the sensitive ecosystems. The geological composition is shaped by its industrial past, with impermeable layers facilitating the formation of ponds. As part of the European Natura 2000 network, Am Brill plays a central role in regional nature conservation and the ecological networking of this heavily urbanized region.
