Dumontshaff Nature Reserve (Luxembourg)

Weather…

The Dumontshaff nature reserve, located between Schifflange and Bettembourg, is an outstanding example of the restoration of the Alzette floodplain. Through large-scale reconstruction measures, the river's natural flooding areas were returned, leading to the creation of a dynamic wetland landscape. Today, Dumontshaff is a paradise for wading and water birds, as well as rare amphibians. Particularly impressive is the establishment of white storks, which find convenient nesting conditions here. The vast water surfaces and mudflats also provide an important resting place for migratory birds. Visitors can explore the area from observation huts without disturbing the sensitive wildlife. The project impressively demonstrates how targeted hydraulic engineering measures can improve flood protection while simultaneously creating valuable habitat for endangered species. Dumontshaff is considered one of the most successful nature conservation projects in the urbanized south of Luxembourg.
