The municipality of Sanem in southwestern Luxembourg comprises the four towns of Belvaux, Ehlerange, Sanem, and Soleuvre. Its development was significantly shaped by the steel industry, particularly due to its proximity to the Belval industrial site, which now hosts the University of Luxembourg. Sanem Castle, with origins dating back to the 13th century, currently serves as a renowned children's home and is surrounded by extensive parkland. During the height of industrialization in the 20th century, the region saw an enormous influx of workers from across Europe. In recent decades, Sanem has successfully transitioned from an industrial hub to a modern residential community focused on services and education. The topography is characterized by the Galgenberg hill, which provides wide views over the Alzette valley. Sanem is also known for its cultural initiatives and the preservation of historic workers' housing estates.
