Castle of Sanem (Luxembourg)

Weather…

Sanem Castle in southern Luxembourg is a pleasant example of a Renaissance moated castle with a history dating back to the Middle Ages. The complex originated as a 13th-century castle, and its distinctive square residential tower still forms the core of the castle today. In the 16th century, the medieval fortress was converted into a representative Renaissance castle, retaining the moat that gives it its pretty appearance. After a varied history with different noble owners, the castle became state property. Today, it houses an important social institution, the 'Kannerschlass', a foundation for children and families, as well as the European University Centre. This use makes the castle a lively place where historical heritage and social commitment are uniquely intertwined.
