Veisiejai Manor (Lithuania)

Weather…

Veisiejai Manor is a historically significant site in southern Lithuania, with roots dating back to the 16th century. The current building is a surviving wing of a once grand U-shaped palace built in the mid-18th century for the Massalski family. The architectural design is attributed to Antonio Paracca, who blended Late Baroque and early Classicist elements. Over the centuries, much of the original palace was destroyed due to wars and fires, leaving only the side wings to stand as a reminder of its former glory. Veisiejai is also notably linked to L. L. Zamenhof, the creator of Esperanto, who lived and practiced medicine here in the late 19th century. The manor park, one of the oldest in Lithuania, is home to a massive 200-year-old ash tree, a protected natural monument. Today, the manor wing serves as a museum and cultural center, preserving the rich history of the region and the Massalski legacy.
