Širvintos Church
The Church of St. Michael the Archangel in Širvintos represents a significant monument of Romantic Classicism, constructed between 1855 and 1860. Designed by the architect Tomasz Tyszecki, the current brick structure replaced earlier wooden churches that had served the parish since the late 14th century. The building's architecture is characterized by its strict symmetrical forms and a modest yet elegant facade, reflecting the aesthetic preferences of the mid-19th century. Inside, the church preserves various historical artifacts and religious paintings of high artistic value, contributing to its status as a protected cultural heritage site. Throughout the decades, the church has survived various conflicts and social changes, remaining a central pillar of the local Catholic community. Today, it stands as the principal architectural landmark of Širvintos, showcasing the historical transition from traditional wooden ecclesiastical architecture to monumental masonry.
