Palanga Amber Museum (Lithuania)

Weather…

The Palanga Amber Museum, housed within the magnificent Tiškevičius Palace, is one of the most fascinating cultural institutions on the Lithuanian Baltic coast. The Neo-Renaissance palace, built in 1897, is set in the heart of a 100-hectare botanical garden designed by the famous French landscape architect Édouard André. Opened to the public in 1963, the museum holds one of the world's largest and most valuable collections of Baltic amber (succinite). Visitors can marvel at over 30,000 exhibits, ranging from raw amber chunks to the finest historical jewelry dating back to the 15th century. However, the absolute main attraction of the museum is its extraordinary collection of amber inclusions, prehistoric insects, spiders, and plant remnants that were trapped in tree resin approximately 50 million years ago. The most famous single piece is the so-called "Sun Stone," a massive lump of pure amber weighing an impressive 3.5 kilograms, regarded as a true natural wonder.
